Description: With this climbing tour you my achieve an experience of climbing second highest point of Mongolia and exploring different cultures of ethnic groups in the west. Mountain Munkh-Khairkhan stands at 4.362 meters above sea level and easy to approach to the top from northern side. There is plenty of snow and ice on top, so you’ll need crampons, an ice axe and rope, but the climb is not technically difficult. The peak is known locally as Tavan Khumst.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive at Ulaanbaatar Train Station and check in hotel *(the hotel check in and out time is 12.00 so please be sure the early check in not guaranteed if there are rooms available we could do it for you) free for leisure. Short sightseeing; visit Ulaanbaatar city’s biggest Gandan Monastery, Main Square Sukhbaatar and Chinggis Khan’s Monument, National Museum and see Mongolian traditional performance. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
   
Day 2

Take a flight to the Khovd town in the Altai Mountains. Short sightseeing around the town to see ruin of the Manchu walls and monastery and visit local museum. Overnight at local hotel.

   
Day 3

Drive to Gurvan Tsenkher Cave in Mankhan soum of Khovd aimag. There are two caves both facing to the north in slope of small rocky mountain which stands on the Khoid Trentser River. The cave is 20m deep and inhabited by humans 40.000 – 12.000 years ago. The wall of the cave filled with rock paintings from Paleolithic era. Overnight at tent.

   
Day 4

Drive to the base camp1 which is located north of the Munkhkhairhan Mountain. These days you can explore surroundings and visit local family in order to taste their tea. Their tea making method is similar to the Tibetans in Himalaya.

   
Day 5

In the morning stay at base camp and prepare for the next day climbing. By the afternoon, start trekking to the base camp 2 it is around 5-7 km but very challengeable. Overnight at base camp 2.

   
Day 6

Hike around 7-10km to the Camp-1 in the valley between two high peaks. An altitude around 3600meters. Overnight at camp 1.

   
Day 7

Climb Barilgachi peak of the Munkh khairkhan Mountain which stands 4204 meters above sea level and in the center of High Altai Mountains. Overnight at camp 1.

   
Day 8

Climb Sukhbaatar highest peak of the Mount Munkh Khairkhan 4362 meters sea above level. Overnight at base camp.

   
Day 9 A day for relax at the base camp
   
Day 10

This day for explore western Mongolian culture. Visit local herder family in order to see their lifestyle and ride their horses. Overnight at base camp.

   
Day 11 Drive to the Khovd town, on the way stops to see Khar- Us Lake, salty lake in the Altai Mountains. And it is the home of the thousands of birds. Overnight at tourist camp.
   
Day 12 Take a flight to Ulaanbaatar. Check in hotel and relax. Overnight at hotel
   
Day 13

In the capital city you will visit Bogd Khaan Winter palace Museum, Gandan monastery and do shopping. In the evening enjoy Mongolian Folk Music and dance concert and fare well dinner. Overnight at hotel

   
Day 14 Check out hotel and transfer to airport. End of the tour
