Visa Information

A passport with at least six months validity is required. Visas are required by nationals of all countries in the European Union, and by nationals of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland. US citizens do not require a visa if their intended stay is less than 3 months. All visas are valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

To apply for tourist visa for a period of no longer than one month a letter of invitation from hosting organization is required.
Please make sure visa requirements of gateway countries to Mongolia, i.e., China, Russia, Korea or Japan.

Transit visas for 7 days is possible to obtain at the entry point of Chinggis Khaan international Airport, Zamii-uud and Sukhbaatar railway ports.

What documents are needed to apply for Mongolian visa?

Following are the documents required:

  1. Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry to Mongolia
  2. One application form.
  3. One passport-size photo
  4. Travel itinerary (if the visit is for more than 7 days)
  5. If you wish your passport to be returned to you by mail, prepaid envelope for return of
    passport by a Federal Express
  6. A) For tourists wishing to stay over one week up to 90 days, a letter of invitation from a travel agency.
    B) Mongolia, and applicant's written statement concerning his/her financial credibility to cover his/her stay in Mongolia.
    C) For those passing Mongolia in transit, onward ticket and visa for next destination is required.

Fees charged for Mongolian visa

  1. Single entry-exit visa - US$30; for urgent service (within a working day) US$50,
  2. Multiple entry-exit visa valid for six months - US$65; for urgent service (within a working day) US$130,
  3. Multiple entry-exit visa valid for one year - US$130; for urgent service (within a working day) US$ 260
  4. Visa extension valid for one week - US$15; for urgent service (within a working day) US$30; US$2 per a day exceeding a week.

Customs

Every traveler coming to Mongolia must complete a custom declaration, which should be retained until departure. This allows the free import and re-export of article intended for personal use for duration of stay. It prohibited to import and export:

  • Guns, weapons, ammunitions without special permission.
  • Explosive items
  • Radioactive substance
  • Pornographic publications
  • Opium, hashish, and other narcotics
  • Publications, records, films, drawings opposing Mongolia
  • Research materials, paleontological  and archeological findings, collection of various plants and their seeds, birds, wild and domestic animals, wool, raw skins and hides, and furs without permissions of appropriate  Mongolian authorities.

Mongolia allows to the following items to be brought in duty free.

  • One litter of spirits
  • Two litters of wine
  • Three litters of beer
  • 200 cigarettes
  • 250 grams of tobacco

Visitors taking antiques and fossils out of the country must have official documentation to do so. Some shops will provide the necessary documents upon purchase. Alternatively, permission can be obtained from the Ministry of Education and Science, Culture in Ulaanbaatar.

NOTE: Foreign national stayed in Mongolia above 30 days is required to get registered at local "Office of Immigration, Naturalization and Foreigners Registration.

  1. Hong Kong - 14 days for all type of passports. There is no visa fee for diplomatic and official passports. Ordinary passport holders pay visa fee if they travel for more than 14 days.
  2. Israel - 30 days for all type of passports
  3. Kazakhstan - 90 days for all type of passports
  4. Malaysia - 1 month for all type of passports
  5. Philippines - 21 days for all type of passports
  6. Singapore - 14 days for all type of passports

  2. Czech - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders within 90 days. Ordinary passport holders need visa

  4. Mexico - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders within 90 days. Ordinary passport holders need visa
  5. Republic of Korea - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders within 30 days. Ordinary passport holders need visa
  6. Romania - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders. Ordinary passport holders need visa
  7. Russia - no visa for diplomatic and official passports within 90 days, ordinary passport holders need visa
  8. Slovakia - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders within 90 days. Ordinary passport holders need visa
  9. Thailand - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders within 30 days. Ordinary passport holders need visa
  10. Turkey - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders within 30 days. Ordinary passport holders need visa
  11. Vietnam - no visa for diplomatic and official passport holders within 90 days. Ordinary passport holders need visa and no visa fee

  1. India - All type of passports need a visa, no visa applications, photos and fees required
  2. USA- no visa fee required, but consular service fee US$ 100 is charged on reciprocal basis from US nationals applying for following type of visa : T- (Employees of representative offices of foreign entities or entities with foreign investment), HG- (students or trainees), TS-(immigrants), B-(business travellers), O-(employees of international NGOs), BH-(journalists)
